Allegro Fudge, the Bengaluru-based, piano-led pop-rock trio will release their debut album Maximum City this Sunday. We spoke to bandleader and keyboardist Jason Zachariah to find out more about the band.
Currently, a three-piece line-up, Allegro Fudge is Jason Zachariah (other bands: Bhoomi, Caesar’s Palace, Parousia) on keys, Saahas Patil on vocals and Shalini Mohan (also of Lagori and a sessions player with Vasundhara Das) on bass.
Zachariah is reluctant to put a label on the band’s sound, saying, “We tend to try and explore different styles. In the album you’ll hear a folk-rock song, a blues song, a Celtic song, you’ll hear a couple of darker songs. So yeah, we tend to focus on a lot of the styles we’ve been influenced by.”
To put the band’s genre-hopping in perspective, over the last few months, Allegro Fudge has released a series of videos that feature the band covering classics from across the spectrum – they’ve got pop with Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” pop-rock with Coldplay’s “Yellow,” hard-rock with Aerosmith’s “Janie’s Got A Gun” and go all the way to metal with their stripped- down reworking of Pantera’s “Cemetery Gates.”
Maximum City, the band’s debut album will release on CD Baby on Sunday. Currently, the entire album is available to stream on the bands Reverbnation site, though the tracks on the soon-to-be released album have been re-mastered.
