Back in October last year, Mumbai hardcore band Scribe tried their hand at comedy and electronica, performing with guest musicians such as Mumbai DJ Johnny B aka Bijou Fernandez and parody songs [“Meri Meshuggah” was a tribute to the Swedish prog metal band] at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune. While they’re keeping the comic act off stage for now, Scribe frontman Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy says the band were always keen to collaborate with electronica artists.

Krishnamoorthy, along with bassist Srinivas Sunderrajan, drummer Virendra Kaith and guitarists Akshay Rajpurohit and Prashant Shah got into the Cotton Press Studio in Mumbai last week with ViceVersa’s vocalists Rohit Pereira aka P-Man and Sidd Coutto and DJ Manas Ullas for MTV India’s new collaboration show, MTV Sync. The show, which has so far brought together bands such as alt rockers Thermal and a Quarter and RnB pop band Baycity Lights, involves one artist picking upcoming artists they would like to collaborate with. Says Krishnamoorthy about picking ViceVersa, “I saw them at Blue Frog and P-Man was wearing silver pants. That’s all I remember. They were on fire. We have been trying to do some electronic stuff before. When this came through, it was a collaboration waiting to happen.”

The song, tentatively titled “Sallu Sanam” captures both group’s energy, with quivering basslines and double-bass drumming set to rap rhymes from Coutto, Pereira and Krishnamoorthy. The episode, which also includes a music video shot by director Evren D’Souza featuring BMX stunt crew Sharp Tune and parkour specialists from Mumbai, is slated to air on MTV on March 2nd, at 8pm. Here’s what went on behind the scenes at the music video shoot in Mumbai.
