Taking their brand of spirited hip-hop and reggae rock overseas, Mumbai band Bombay Bassment will be playing their first-ever international gig at The Music room in Dubai on June 8th.  “The promoters offered us a good deal and we are excited about playing to a completely fresh audience,” says Robert “Bobkat” Omulo, Bombay Bassment’s rapper and songwriter. The four-member band will compile a setlist of their best known tracks such as “Bombay Blues,” that spotlights the city, “Represent,” “Hip Hop (Never Be The Same)” and a few new tracks for their Dubai show.

Winners of this year’s JD Rock Awards Best Breakthrough Act, Bombay Bassment had a gig lined up in Singapore in May, which would have been their first international gig, but it fell through because the band was expected to fund its travel. “The deal wasn’t right for us, but when the promoters at The Music Room contacted us, we felt they were really professional about the whole plan,” says Omulo. Indian rock veterans Indus Creed also played a gig at The Music Room early last month. Local Dubai cover band Funk n Groove will support Bombay Bassment at their show next month.
