Demonic Resurrection Cover New Ground

The Mumbai extreme metallers not only return to play at Brutal Assault in Czech Republic, but are also slated to play in Slovenia, Sri Lanka and Nepal

Jul 07, 2015

In case you didn’t already know, Mumbai extreme metal band Demonic Resurrection [DR] have always been about new territories. Whether it’s playing to audiences far out in Anand, Gujarat or making sure Europe is on touring schedule every year now, DR likes to take their music to as many places as possible. Says frontman Sahil Makhija aka the Demonstealer, “We want to play everywhere and I think compared to most Indian metal bands, we’re most accommodating when it comes to fees and I think that works in our favor.”

It’s no surprise that for the next two months, DR are clocking some serious miles. In addition to performing at Metaldays festival in Slovenia in July, the band returns to perform at Brutal Assault Festival in Czech Republic, where they first played in 2010. Following the two Europe festival appearances, they head out to Sri Lanka for Maelstrom festival in Colombo on August 30th, followed by a September show to support earthquake relief funds at Metal for Nepal festival in Kathmandu on September 5th. Says Makhija about expanding their fanbase in the subcontinent, “Slowly, as these different countries’ scenes grow, they’ll look out for more bands. And you have to grow as a band and be international.”

As for the Europe festivals, DR are joining the likes of Polish death metallers Behemoth, American death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder and Greek extreme metallers Rotting Christ at Metaldays in Slovenia, a first for them. Says Makhija about arranging festival bookings, “Most of the times, it depends on how big your [own] band is and how many people you can pull in. More often than not, you have to build a relation with promoters.” The frontman says he began trying to put together a summer European tour as soon as they returned from their UK tour last year, but says no club shows have worked out this time. Instead, they’ll be playing Metaldays and take a break of ten days before their Brutal Assault appearance. DR joins fellow Mumbai death grind band Gutslit on the Brutal Assault lineup, and Makhija says he always enjoys having another Indian band around. Adds Makhija, who hung out with Shillong death metallers and Wacken Metal Battle India winners Plague Throat when both bands performed at Germany’s Wacken Open Air last year, “It’s good fun. You have somebody to talk to in Hindi.”
