Doris Roberts, the longtime actress who for nine seasons played Ray Romano’s meddling mother Marie on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, died Sunday night at her home in Los Angeles. Roberts was 90. The actress’ son Michael Cannata confirmed his mother’s death to Deadline, adding that Roberts died in her sleep of natural causes.

Roberts was nominated for seven Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy Awards over the course of Everybody Loves Raymond‘s nine seasons and 210 episodes, taking home the award in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005. Roberts also won an Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series Emmy in 1983 for her role in St. Elsewhere.

“We loved our mom, the great Doris Roberts. A wonderful, funny, indelible actress and friend,” Everybody Loves Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal tweeted Monday.

Roberts accrued over 100 television and film credits over a career that spanned 65 years, including parts in films like The Heartbreak Kid, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, the cult classic The Honeymoon Killers, The Rose and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Her most notable role came in 1996 when she was cast as Marie Barone alongside Peter Boyle’s Frank Barone. The series, which consistently ranked in the top 10 ratings-wise, resulted in more high profile comedic roles for Roberts, including prominent turns in Dickie Roberts: Child Star and Grandma’s Boy,

Actress Patricia Heaton, Roberts’ co-star on Everybody Loves Raymond, posted on social media, “Truly the end of an era. My wonderful TV mother-in-law and ELR nemesis Doris Roberts was a consummate professional from whom I learned so much. She was gunny and tough and loved life, living it to the fullest. Nothing her greater joy than her three wonderful grandchildren, of whom she was so proud. It truly was a privilege Doris. I love you and miss you.”

Recently, Roberts appeared in a Doritos commercial that aired during Super Bowl 50. The Hollywood Reporter adds that Roberts was scheduled to appear at an Everybody Loves Raymond reunion in Austin, Texas in June.
