Dream Theater Tickets Go On Sale; Organizer Justifies Steep Prices

“I’ve got to get my money back and also sustain myself and make some money so I can do something else next time,” says Cyrus Gorimar of Opium Events

Last week, it was announced that American metal outfit Dream Theater will make their India debut on October 8th at Mumbai’s MMRDA grounds as part of their “Images, Words & Beyond” 25th Anniversary World Tour. Tickets for the concert went live this noon on bookmyshow.com.

The ticket prices are divided into four categories, from ₹25,200 for the Dream Class category and ₹7,400, ₹5,100 and ₹3,600 for the Platinum, Gold and Silver categories, respectively.  The first 50 fans who purchase the Dream Class tickets will receive the perks of meeting the band and will also get to walk home with merchandize which includes T-shirts and mugs. The Dream Class ticket holders will also be elevated four and a half feet above the ground at the concert.

Ask organizer Cyrus Gorimar from Mumbai-based events agency Opium Events why the tickets are priced steeply and he says, “I don’t think [they are] because people should understand the cost implications for me to bring a band like that, and you know how our sponsors are–they would have sponsored Arijit [Singh, Bollywood singer] but they’ll say, ”˜Who’s Dream Theater?’”

He adds, “I’ve got to get my money back and also sustain myself and make some money so I can do something else next time.” He says he is overwhelmed by the response to the ticket sales. “I am checking it live and it is going great, I’m surprised.”

Gorimar hasn’t locked an opening band for the show yet, but insisted he intends on getting a good rock band on board.
