Netherlands symphonic metal band Epica head to India this December to headline IIT Bombay’s band event Livewire, as part of institute’s annual cultural festival, Mood Indigo. The band, best known for songs such as “Cry for the Moon,” “Unleashed” and “Storm the Sorrow,” will perform in Mumbai on December 28th.

The band, formed by guitarist-vocalist Mark Jansen in 2002, also comprises vocalist Simone Simons, synth player Coen Janssen, lead guitarist Isaac Delahaye, bassist Rob van der Loo and drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek. In addition to channeling prog metal, melo-death metal and black metal influences, Epica have gained a following more for their use of orchestras, string sections and choirs throughout their catalog of songs, spread across six albums. The band has also composed background scores for Hollywood movies such as Pirates of The Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings.

Epica will perform in India to promote their sixth studio album, The Quantum Enigma, which released in May this year. The band’s performance at Livewire in Mumbai follows the likes of prog rock act Neal Morse Band with Mike Portnoy, who played last year, Canadian rockers Simple Plan, who made their India debut in 2012 and Australian prog rock band Karnivool, who played at Livewire in 2011.

Epica performs at Mood Indigo 2014’s Livewire Nite on December 28th, 2014. Ticket and entry details TBA.
