Exclusive Premiere: Watch Laxmi Bomb Freak Out on their Psychedelic new video ‘Asshole’
The track is off the Mumbai electro-pop group’s third release ‘Bol Na Ranti’
This past February, Mumbai electro-pop band Laxmi Bomb’s third offering Bol Na Ranti climbed all the way to Number One on iTunes India’s all genres albums chart. Laxmi Bomb has wasted little time following their success and is now out with their trippy music video for “Asshole” which featured on the record.
In the clip, directed by Mumbai-based videographer Anmol Mahajan, the band members get their tribal paint on and turn ridiculously strange in the hallway of a building. The video evolved after the group agreed to be part of a performance showcase with Polish-Portuguese scientist Janek Świerkowski in Goa. Says frontman Keegan Pereira, “We got a call from Janek asking if we could fly down to Goa and be put in a room the size of a small classroom, be painted like we were in the [band] photoshoot and perform one song four times a day, for three days in a row. We asked if we could shoot a video for it and that’s where it all started.”
According to the band, the video resembles what people look like if they were turned inside out. “The use of colors and psychedelic patterns is a reflection of the things we have consumed or devoured,” says Pereira. As for the song, Pereira explains, “[It’s] not particularly a person, but the keeda [bug] in each one. [It’s] weird, out-there, unconventional and at times a gross character. At the same time, he’s also the life of the party, the colorful chap who’s more than willing to spread the colors of love.”
Laxmi Bomb, comprising Pereira, drummer Levin Mendes, DJ Major C and keyboardist Joaquim Fernandes don’t plan on slowing things down anytime soon and have started laying the foundations on new material. Says Pereira, “We’ve already begun work on our next release.”
