The HBC (Scott Henderson/Jeff Berlin/Dennis Chambers) Super Trio will be performing together for the first time in India on Thursday. In case you’re wondering why they are termed as a ”˜super’ trio, musician Sandeep Chowta explains saying, “These are three of the greatest musicians getting together. It’s going to be fireworks.” Chowta met Henderson between 2002 and 2003, when he recorded his album Matters Of The Heart which also features Henderson on it.

The HBC Super Trio are touring Europe before stopping by for a show in Mumbai to promote their new album HBC ”“ Henderson, Berlin, Chambers which released on October 16th. Among the three artists, drummer Dennis Chambers is in India after 18 years, while bassist Jeff Berlin will be making his first visit to the country. This will be the third time guitarist Scott Henderson performs in the city ”“ having played with the Scott Henderson Trio in May 2010 and February last year. This time around, Henderson will be spending his time in the country recording a fusion project with Chowta and an Indian contingent of jazz musicians including Bengaluru’s Tony Das.

Sandeep Chowta Projects [SCP] has been responsible for bringing a whole lot of “musician’s musicians,” as he puts it, in to the country. He has previously organized shows featuring virtuoso drummer Virgil Donati and ace guitarist Allan Holdsworth in November last year, and the John Abercrombie Organ Trio earlier this year in June. Having kicked off in 2006, this will be the 12th band that SCP is bringing to India. Chowta says the main aim is to make it accessible to everyone. “We didn’t price the tickets too high either. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. This is the real deal.”

The HBC Super Trio performs at St. Andrew’s Auditorium, Bandra (West) on October 25th. Tickets cost Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,000. Details are available on the Facebook event page here.
