Indie label ennui.BOMB founder Rishu Singh clearly has a soft spot for Kolkata. After he told us he received at least 20 entries from Kolkata bands for the seventh edition of his “unmetal” compilation album Stupiditties, Singh is bringing down Kolkata post punk band Jeepers Creepers to play alongside Mumbai punk rock band The Lightyears Explode, alternative rock band Spud in the Box (who will play with their new drummer, Joshua Singh) and electronica act Paralights on August 1st as part of BOMB Thursdays.

Jeepers Creepers last played in Mumbai two years ago, when they registered for IIT, Mumbai’s annual band competition Livewire, part of the cultural festival Mood Indigo. Although they didn’t get past the first round, the band is happy to play at the non-competitive BOMB Thursdays. Says vocalist-guitarist Ananda Mitra, “We were just four or five months old [as a band] when we played at Mood Indigo, but now we’ve got an EP and much more music to play.”

At BOMB Thursdays, Jeepers Creepers play a 45-minute set, including songs such as “She Digs a Whippersnapper,” “Seven Pounds” and “Taxiride” as well as a cover of The Beatles’ “I am the Walrus,” and Arctic Monkeys’ “Fake Tales of San Francisco.” Says Mitra, “Mumbai is a place where every band wants to play. We’ve played everywhere else, but Mumbai was the apple we wanted to go and eat.”

The band, whose debut two-track EP, Odds and Favours, released in December last year, will begin work on a second EP tentatively titled Rubik’s Cube. The EP will be produced by The Supersonics frontman Ananda Sen at his Kolkata studio, Dream Digital, next month. Says Mitra, “We have about 15-20 songs and went through a lot of finances for this EP, so we picked four of the best ones to put on the EP.”

Jeepers Creepers, Spud in the Box, The Lightyears Explode and Paralights play at BOMB Thursdays on August 1st, 2013 at Kino 108, Mumbai. Entry Rs 200. Event details here.
