Meet the Nominees: Noiseware

The Pune band won Best Metal Song at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2011, and is nominated in three categories this year

Jun 12, 2012

After winning the Best Metal Song (Critics Choice) category at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards last year, Noiseware is back, securing 3 nominations this year. The band is composed of Aman Virdi on vocals, Adhiraj Singh and Aniket Patni on guitars, Gautam Deb on drums and Bob Alex on bass. Despite being a relatively young band, Noiseware has managed to reach immense heights in a short span of time. Beating some of the best bands in the country, Noiseware opened for Porcupine Tree at the 2009 Mood Indigo Livewire. At the Great Indian Rock Festival 2010, Noiseware was the only Indian band to support all three headliners in Pune: Meshuggah, Tesseract and Enslaved. “We got a chance to meet all the bands except Porcupine Tree, who had some weird security going on. We got to learn not just about their music, but also the experiences these guys had. It was quite an amazing experience.” says Adhiraj.

Sound

“We don’t like to confine ourselves into a subgenre. We like to call ourselves a metal band. That’s what makes us different from the others. We aren’t consciously forcing ourselves into a genre. We don’t try to confine our sound in the way we write our music.” says Adhiraj. Primarily a progressive / experimental metal act, Noiseware received a lot of attention when they started to use eight-stringed guitars and play djent. “As a band, our taste in music is open to all kinds of music, even pop!”Adhiraj says explaining how the band listens to a lot of non-metal music and how the members are big fan of bands like Karnivool and Porcupine Tree. “We listen to our share of metal also ”“ Textures and other similar bands.”

On Winning

“Getting nominated itself is pretty cool, especially with such great bands. My personal favorites are Skyharbor and Goddess Gagged. I wouldn’t know about our chances of winning, but all the bands are stellar. In the end, it all comes down to a couple of votes.” says Adhiraj who will be competing with Keshav Dhar of Skyharbor and Devesh Dayal and Arman Menzies of Goddess Gagged in the Best Guitarist category.

Things you didn’t know about Noiseware

“We are currently working on a full length album. It’ll be very different from the EP, which was basically just a compilation of the songs we’ve performed over the past two years. We’re putting out new material, working on songwriting and the whole band is very focused.  We’ll be releasing the new album by the end of the year or early next year.”
