With 9,000 subscribers and about over a 100,000 views on every released video, Maati Baani struck big with their following. Maati Baani comprises Hindustani vocalist Nirali Kartik and producer/guitarist Kartik Shah who collaborate with various traditional and folk artists from around the world. The duo have previously collaborated with American clarinetist Shankar Tucker, French jazz/blues vocalist Joy Shanti, Hindustani vocalist Ankita Joshi, Rajasthani folk singer Swaroop Khan and flautist Noor Mohammad.

The video for “Balma,” which released last month, features the largest number of collaborators until date, showcasing 11 musicians from five countries including France, UK, New Zealand, Spain and India, and seemed to be inspired by the multimedia music project Playing For Change. The musicians contribute to this piece with a range of instruments like the accordion, clarinet, violin, guitars, gypsy guitar, drums, trumpet, double bass and sitar. The video opens in New Zealand and wraps up in India at Maati Baani’s set at the Pune edition of Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2013.
