Most american djs aren’t doing the same dubstep that uk ones are, but that’s not necessarily bad. Producers like pantyraid, mimosa, vibesquad, and martyparty make some damn good music that you can call dubstep, but its more complex and harmonic than their uk counterparts. Some purists aren’t going to like that but that’s the case with every genre of music. Personally I like the american djs a little better. Not including skrillex or any of the repetitive garbage that gets churned out on the regular.

Skrillex sold his decks shortly after signing on to deadmau5′s record label. For a while all he has done is open his macbook, plug in a midi controller with some effects knobs and hit play. Fiddling with volume and gay effects knobs is what twelve year olds do to pretend to DJ. Now I will admit he is a good producer, not all great producers are good at mixing live, but the problem is that since his debut he hasn’t changed his formula. The first times i heard him when slats came out I was heavily into electro listening to MSTRKRFT and Justice and the sorts and I had only listened to ganja white knight for a taste of dubstep and I truly believed and still truly believe that Skrillex is NOT a dubstep producer and instead an electro producer. Still he hasn’t done anything except remix his original tunes and released them as original new tunes and therefore he isn’t a prodigy, he won’t become anything great, all he will do is rinse and repeat his forrmula for what worked for him at his debut and eventually run out of ideas, become stagnant, and lose any kind of following.

The reason those artists are popular is because they produce more epic sounding dubstep than the rest. Excision wouldn’t have achieved so much if he didn’t diligently create those sounds that he uses not to mention the tempo’s of the songs in general. I’m a dubstep producer and let me tell you, if you don’t have good enough sounds or the creativity and time to make decent sounding tempo’s then you won’t get anywhere. You can give shit to artists as much as you want but that won’t change the fact that people will continue to listen to shitty music and make it popular. If you look at the itunes top 10 songs, the first one is Sexy and I Know It by LMFAO. I’m going to clarify this for everyone. Skrillex is some really bad brostep. As well as pretty much all the other producers all you “dubstep” fans listed. Which makes me lol. Real dubstep producers are the producers who were there for the conversion from garage to halfstep and then to dubstep. I.e. mala, coki, loefah, skream etc. All the deep medi dudes. All the dubstep that’s being produced now is just a battle to see who can distort their basslines the most. It really doesn’t surprise me that Justin Bieber wants to experiment with dubstep. It also wouldn’t surprise me if Skrillex produced his cd. There’s a reason why a lot of good dubstep producers from back in the day aren’t making dubstep anymore. Look at Ramadanman, Egyptrixx, and Headhunter(Addison Groove), none of them make dubstep anymore (at least not primarily). first and foremost this is the first I’ve heard of this and it is very disturbing, second instead of bickering about who is the better producer just embrace the progression of electronic music as a whole whether its house, glitch, dubstep, WHATEVER. I had the privilege of seeing caspa, rusko, mimosa, zeds dead, and skrillex this past year and I enjoyed each but skrillex even more then the others. And finally I’m a little disappointed that I haven’t heard a single mention of pretty lights, and I know there’s gonna be a select few who are gonna read this and try to make some smart ass comment about how he isn’t dubstep but I don’t care, dvs is hands down the best electronic producer. He raises the bar with every EP and full album that he comes out with and each one has me dancing my ass off and having a good time…and isn’t that what its all about? There is a lot of terrible chat about Dub-step on here and all the comments are the same. Skrillex did not single handedly ruin Dubstep, admittedly it was a lot better back in the days of Skream Benga Rusko Bar 9 and Doorly. But that was different sound , more raw original and alot closer to its UK garage roots. It then began to progress to a much dirtier sound with the likes of datsik Borgore Doctor p riskoteq and then eventually skrillex, where it is a collection of pop house intro’s with a rather samey mish mash of high pitched modulated electro sounds and risers. Its not a bad thing , its just a progression of sound, although i do see how it is frustrating that it has gotten very old very quickly and fair enough have a couple of songs that sound like sweet shop or ice cream van, but totally taking over the genre..its a bit of a shame. We there need to be more songs like Man like me, Shaolin Style etc. But hey thats progression. It appears dubstep has had its time in the sun, The way i see it going is picking up tempo, getting less jumbled and hitting more organised drops and sinking somewhere gentley between Electro House and Fidget house, Which is alot more fun to dance to!! getting bored of slow bobbing and skanking!!! embrace the new sound and dont forget you still can lister to the old classics. IF YOU DONT LIKE SKRILLEX OR BEIBER DOING DUBSTEP THEN DON’T BUY IT , EACH TO THEIR OWN!

How does the fact that Skrillex is influenced by more than one genre give him any more credibility? What producers aren’t influenced by more than one type of music? Furthermore, how can you honestly tell people to gain knowledge in music while you are supporting someone who has hardly any. All of his songs have the same progression, it’s just some melody on top of chopped up samples that builds until he cuts all sound inserts a sample and then drops his retarded wobbles. In fact that’s how most dubstep is now which is why you have all these people that hate it. I don’t like hearing the same shit over and over, I like when artists experiment which is why around 2008 I stopped listening to dubstep because it all became about the wobbles.

He consistently fucks up at shows( go on YouTube and watch him mess up) and frankly looks like a girl. From a music technique perspective there is no phrasing or movement in his songs and it’s obvious from listening he does not have a strong grasp of music technique. There will always be plenty of shitty DJs and we know they tend to be the ones everyone loves, as apparent by the massive amount of house DJs who don’t even try to make their shows different than a sweet sixteen party ( as I experienced watching Major Lazer play Look at me Now by Chris Brown at EDC without remixing or even adding some bass. i’m from san francisco and don’t like skrillex that much. the thing i don’t like is the hype built up around him that came out of no where. there are a lot of good dubstep producers that have been producing dubstep for a while that deserve more credit and notoriety for their music. i think it’s just kindof unfortunate to have skrillex be the face of the genre when it’s beginning to get mainstream success.
