While Mumbai is getting its fair share of metal through this month, with three big gigs, including the Rolling Stone Metal Awards on June 22nd, fans of metal in Delhi have the Outrage Festival to look forward to with eight metal bands on its lineup.

Event organizer Karan Mehta, who has previously been on the organizing team of the W.O.R.M.E. festival in 2012, says that the main aim of the festival was to promote bands who are releasing new material. Heavy hitters performing at the Outrage Festival include Delhi groove/technical metal band Undying Inc., who are releasing their new EP Ironclad, Bengaluru prog metal band Escher’s Knot, who just released the single “Grand Design,” Aizawl-based death metallers Third Sovereign and Mumbai groove/thrash metal band Zygnema, who are both working on new material. Other local acts performing at the festival include progressive death metallers Fragarak and prog metal band Nigambodh. Mehta’s own band, prog metalcore act Colossal Figures, will also perform at the event. Says Mehta, “We want to launch our [Colossal Figures] album, Clockwork Dilation, before the gig. We just finished remastering it. All these releases definitely add hype to the festival.”

Shillong experimental metal band Aberrant will make their Delhi debut at Outrage Festival, which will also mark the launch of their EP. Says Aberrant’s guitarist Imti Kharkongor, “It’s also our first gig outside of the North East, so we’re going to make this count. It’s an amazing lineup as well.” Formed in 2012, Aberrant started recording their five-track EP in January. Adds Kharkongor about the band’s sound, “It’s very groovy, with lots of technical elements as well. It’s all mixed into one.” At Outrage, the band will perform songs off the EP such as “Collateral Damage” and “Breathe In A New Life” as part of their 40-minute set. Kharkongor adds, “We might cover some stuff from [groove metal band] Devildriver, [metalcore band] Threat Signal or [groove/death metal band] Gojira.”
