When the 2Stroke Tour’s second edition was announced last month, organizer Uddipan Sarmah told us that the aim was to get audiences into a new band as well program a crowd-puller. On the first stop in Kolkata, they couldn’t have been more sure of a good turnout considering they had one of the city’s best known bands, pop rockers The Ganesh Talkies, touring alongside Mumbai alt rockers Last Remaining Light, who were launching their own debut album.

While Last Remaining Light frontman Siddharth Basrur kept the audience humored and made sure they knew there was an album on sale, the band ploughed through a few technical difficulties during their hour-long set, which included album material such as “Conclusions,” “Fire Drill Gone Wild,” and “Fat Like Gepetto.” Basrur also led the band through some of his earlier solo material like “One Trip Love” and “Logic is Such a Liar.”

The Ganesh Talkies were armed with angry punk-leaning new material such as “Rum and Coke,” “Say My Name” and “The Great Indian Freakshow,” which took the audience by surprise in terms of the energy levels of a pop rock band which also had the ability to get the dancefloor going with songs such as “Item Song,” “Dancing Dancing” and “Monsters in Your Head.” And get it going they did, with minimal effort.
