Plini and David Maxim Micic Announce India Tour

The Australian guitarist and his Serbian counterpart will make their debut in four cities, followed by a show in Nepal

Jan 18, 2018

Plini will play in four cities on his debut visit to the country.

The prog just keeps adding up this year. After the announcement of U.K. metallers TesseracT at concert series Backdoors yesterday, event and artist company BlueTree have set up a four-city tour for Australian guitar whiz Plini.

The 25-year-old Sydney-based guitarist, who blends lightheaded prog, jazz and tech-metal in his bedroom productions, will be joined by Serbian composer and guitarist David Maxim Micic in Bengaluru, Pune, Ahmedabad and New Delhi. Receiving praise from guitarists such as Steve Vai, Plini Roessler-Holgate released his latest album Handmade Cities in 2016.

What was first announced as a performance at Vh1 Supersonic on February 11th has now been extended to three more cities in India and a stop in Kathmandu. Supported by New Delhi rock band Kraken, Plini and Maxim will also conduct guitar clinics in Bengaluru on February 10th and in Mumbai on February 12th. Plini says, “Yeah. It’s kind of been an ongoing thing for maybe two years. Either the timing doesn’t work out or there’s no money ”“ something’s always making it difficult, but yeah, it’s finally happened.”

Plini’s India connection, however, isn’t being established just now via this tour. Later in January, Plini will join drumming virtuoso Marco Minnemann and Mumbai-based bass prodigy Mohini Dey for two shows in Los Angeles. Plini also played a solo on Indian prog metal/rock band Skyharbor’s song “The Constant,” off their 2014 album Guiding Light. Once in India, he’s looking forward to hearing more music from the country. The guitarist adds, “The only local artists I know are Skyharbor and Goddess Gagged. I feel like in such a large population, there’s got to be so many awesome bands that I haven’t heard of.”
