Premiere: Watch Yesterdrive’s Adorable New Music Video ‘Ok Hope’
The Itanagar indie rockers have roped in Teji Toko on drums and will return to the stage with shows through September, stopping over at Music Matters Festival in Singapore
It seems like the glimmering guitar licks of Itanagar indie rockers Yesterdrive seem to find a match in the visual language of Brazilian filmmakers, and not for the first time.
Filmmaker duo Leo Longo and Diana Boccara – producing music videos under the moniker Couple of Things – first worked with Yesterdrive for their global music project Around the World in 80 Music Videos in late 2015, for their song “Dread.” So thrilled were Yesterdrive with the results that they asked the duo to direct the music video to their latest single “Ok Hope” straight from Sao Paulo. The video follows a date by the beach and a lesson in dating etiquette demonstrated by a bunny-headed couple, which is not too surreal thanks to its cute quotient.
The release comes after a few months of uncertainty for Yesterdrive, who moved back to Itanagar from New Delhi and enlisted new drummer Teji Toko (from metallers Sacred Secrecy). Along the way of rebuilding, synth player Kabir Jamatia applied to perform at the Music Matters festival in Singapore. He says with a laugh, “We got the invitation right after my birthday. Best birthday gift ever.”
The band joins electro-rock duo FuzzCulture, guitar virtuoso Ravi Iyer and pop rock artist Alobo Naga as part of ‘Sounds of India’ showcase at the festival and a club show between September 9th and 13th. Once they’re back in India, Yesterdrive will perform in Gurugram (September 15th), New Delhi (September 22nd, part of the second edition of rock gig series Kerplunk) and Rangpo, Sikkim (at the Stereo Valley Music Fiesta on September 23rd), where guitarist Takar Nabam (formerly of prog metallers Guillotine) will stand in for Haggai Rongmei, but the full lineup will come together for their set at Bacardi NH7 Weeekender in Meghalaya between October 27th and 28th.
