The sixth edition of the Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards were held at the Hard Rock Café in Mumbai on January 20, a show where the biggest names in the music industry rubbed shoulders with some of the most important bands on the indie music scene today.

In a year that’s seen some of the best music yet to come out of the burgeoning Indian independent music scene, the final nominees were a mix of scene veterans and talented newcomers. Scribe, Split, Demonic Resurrection, Shaa’ir + Func, Tough on Tobacco and Ankur Tewari dominated the nominations while Something Relevant and Slain made their presence felt as well.

The event saw performances by Demonic Resurrection, Split, Tough on Tobacco, Something Relevant and The Petri Dish Project. The evening, though, belonged to local heroes, Scribe, who picked up five trophies, including the coveted Band of the Year title. “We’re super-humbled by the awards,” said an ecstatic Prashant Shah, guitarist and founding member of Scribe. “A big ”˜thank you’ to all the people who support and inspire us to make music. Being appreciated for what you believe in is always a win scene,” he beamed. Scribe will fly to Bali later this year to perform at a Jack Daniel’s event.
