Third Eye Blind To Shoot Music Video In Mumbai
Frontman Stephan Jenkins confirms Third Eye Blind’s plans to shoot video for song from their upcoming album
After soundchecks in Bengaluru’s Hard Rock Café, San Francisco alt rock band Third Eye Blind is sure of one thing. Unlike most of their concerts, high on stage histrionics, their India tour will miss out on all the onstage action. “I have no expectations from what’s going to happen in India. It’s a very small stage and it’s very high… I usually need a lot of space to move while performing and I’m not going to get that,” says frontman Stephan Jenkins, who is known to have released a swarm of live crickets from a hanging piñata at concert early on in his career.
Third Eye Blind, that has delivered hit singles like “Semi-Charmed Life”, “How’s It Going To Be?”, “Jumper” and “Deep Inside of You” in the past, is in the country on a four-city Bacardi Go-Together Mix tour starting today. The tour, as Jenkins describes it, is to “go get inspired in India” and wrap up work on their upcoming album. The band has been far from prolific off late, having released their last album, Ursa Major, after a hiatus of six years.
Now, three years since its release, they are still putting finishing touches on their fifth yet-to-be-titled album, which will also be the band’s last full-length album. “It takes me a long time. Just making an album kills me. There’s a reason why guys die at 27,” he says, adding that he plans to release one song at a time in the future. About their upcoming album, Jenkins adds, “I think it will have a sort of big, open sound with anthem tracks with an Arcade Fire feeling to it and others with a shoegaze kind of feel. Some tracks will be simple, raw sounding.”
The band plans to shoot a track titled “All The Soul” from their fifth album in India. “We plan to shoot it atop a double-decker bus in the middle of Mumbai traffic,” adds Jenkins, who tweeted asking fans for locations earlier this week.
Ahead of their debut gig in Bengaluru tonight, Jenkins says that the band will try to feed off the excitement of their fans in India. Fans hoping to hear “How’s It Gonna Be” may however be disappointed. “I don’t like the song. I haven’t played it in a while and don’t plan to until we rediscover the song,” he says. About their setlist tonight, Jenkins add, “We will play a mix of old and new songs. I will probably play “Wounded” and a couple of new songs and maybe take up some requests.”
Third Eye Blind performs at Hard Rock Café Bengaluru on November 27th, Hard Rock Café Hyderabad on November 28th, Hard Rock Cafe Mumbai on November 30th and Hard Rock Cafe Pune on December 2nd. For tickets, click here.
