Jan 29, 2013

Since 2006, composer Sandeep Chowta has managed to earmark the calendar of jazz enthusiasts in Mumbai. In the past, Sandeep Chowta Projects has brought jazz greats like drummers Virgil Donati and drummer Dennis Chambers, guitar legends Allan Holdsworth and Frank Gambale among others to perform in the city.

Jazz/fusion guitarist Scott Henderson, who collaborated with Chowta on his 2011 album Matters of The Heart, which features as many as 45 jazz artists, is one such artist who has made Mumbai his annual stopover. This March, Henderson will return for the fourth time [he toured as part of HBC Super Trio last year], performing with jazz fusion band Tribal Tech, which he founded with bassist Gary Willis in 1984. Also comprising Scott Kinsey on keyboards and Kirk Covington on drums, the band took a decade long hiatus starting 2000 and have released 10 albums till date, including their latest X, their first full-length record in 12 years.

Tribal Tech perform at St Andrew’s Auditorium, Mumbai on March 14th. Tickets Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,000.
