Watch Buffalo Springfield Play ‘Rockin’ in the Free World,’ ‘I Am a Child’

Fan footage was filmed at Wednesday’s historic tour kickoff

Earlier this week Buffalo Springfield launched their first tour since splitting up in 1968. (Read David Fricke’s review of opening night here). As was inevitable, fan-shot videos from the shows have slowly been trickling onto YouTube. The quality varies from terrible to surprisingly great. Check out the group’s performance of “I Am A Child”:

There’s also a video of “Rockin’ in the Free World,” which was the only song in the set not drawn from Buffalo Springfield’s original three albums in the 1960s. Watch:

When the reunited group played two shows last October at the Bridge School Benefit, Young closed out the shows with his 1989 classic. “We didn’t rehearse it once,” Richie Furay told Rolling Stone after the show. “I gave Jackson Browne my guitar the first night because I wasn’t even sure of the chords. Then I went home that night and got my computer and checked out the song to make sure I could play it. On the second night I didn’t give my guitar away.”

Buffalo Springfield are playing four more California dates over the next week before heading over to Bonnaroo next weekend. They have no other dates announced, but a fall tour is almost certainly in the works.

A fan very high up in the balcony at the second Oakland show captured the encores of “Broken Arrow” and “For What It’s Worth.” The sound is pretty perfect, but you can barely see the stage. Check it out here:
