Fresh off releasing his new album The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, Gary Clark Jr. has unveiled the music video for the LP’s uplifting opening track “The Healing.” As the title suggests, the sumptuously shot, Gaston Jouany-directed music video centers on the healing power of music.

In “The Healing,” a shrouded, suffering woman, played by model and Clark’s fiancée Nicole Trunfio, seeks remedies for what’s ailing her, whether it’s the advice of a soothsayer or prescription pills from a therapist. When those avenues fail, the woman mysteriously finds herself around a bonfire where Clark Jr. and two female assistants cure the woman. “This music is my healing / ‘Cause when this world upsets me / This music sets me free,” Clark Jr. sings on the bluesy chorus.

On Friday, the day The Story of Sonny Boy Slim arrived, Rolling Stone premiered a scorching live take of “The Healing” that Clark Jr. and his band recorded at Austin’s Arlyn Studios. “On ‘The Healing’ track, I played a lot of the instruments myself and got very immersed in the track,” Clark Jr. told Rolling Stone. “Live, I get to hear it all back performed with the energy of live musicians and we can take it further if we want.”

Clark Jr. is in the midst of touring in support of his follow-up to 2012’s Blak and Blu, with the guitar virtuoso on the road supporting the Foo Fighters’ current North American leg; Clark Jr. featured prominently in the Austin-based episode of Sonic Highways. The rocker will also perform some solo dates in the coming months, including two gig at his hometown Austin City Limits Festival.
