Watch John Mayer Perform Romantic ‘Love on the Weekend’ on ‘Fallon’

Singer-songwriter previewed 2017 LP with first single in three years

Dec 08, 2016

John Mayer performed silky new song “Love on the Weekend,” his first single in three years, Tuesday on The Tonight Show. The singer-songwriter crooned romantic lines while strumming his trademark Fender Strat. Mayer was backed by a subdued, six-piece band that included bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan, his acclaimed rhythm section for 2005’s live LP Try!

“Love on the Weekend,” which Mayer released in November, previews the singer-songwriter’s upcoming seventh LP, due in 2017. Jordan recently revealed to Entertainment Tonight that the album would be named The Search for Everything. “Steve has announced the record now twice, the name of the record twice, and I have not told anybody,” Mayer said, though he’s yet to officially announce the title.

Mayer’s most recent album was 2013’s folk/country album Paradise Valley. More recently in 2015, Mayer toured as part of Dead & Company, which features several iconic members of Grateful Dead. The band, including Mayer, will kick off a 19-date summer tour on May 27th.
