Earlier today South Korean co-ed group KARD made a comeback with their first single album, Way With Words. The release was led by the single “Gunshot” and its accompanying music video. KARD comprises four members, rappers BM and J.seph and vocalists Jiwoo and Somin.

Co-written and co-composed by BM and J.seph, “Gunshot” is a dark trap track that compares the effect of toxic words to the pain caused by bullet wounds–especially when its from someone you love: “Woah answer when I’m calling/Without you dying slowly/The words you spit out kill me like bullets/Not me but that Trigger trigger/wrap around and pull it… Your words are like a gun shot/I’m bleeding love/They hit me like a gun shot/I’m bleeding love.”

The gritty music video sees the quartet engage in a battle with themselves. They’re wounded and tired but persevere to defeat and discard their weaker selves. This is implied towards the end of the clip when after the track, vocalist Jiwoo faces off against and shoots her double. The video also features some of the group’s most dynamic choreography yet, as well as powerful scenes of each member destroying the sets around them to break free from whatever is keeping them bound.

Way With Words is KARD’s first comeback since February, when they dropped their fourth EP Red Moon. The group performed “Gunshot” for the first time earlier this month during their online concert, ‘Wild Kard – Seoul’ on August 22nd. Way With Words features a total of three songs including “Gunshot,” “Ah Ee Yah” and “Hold On.”
