2015 saw Ronit Sarkar aka Awkward Bong make his solo breakthrough, Dhruv Visvanath charm us over with his debut Orion, deep house/electronic music producer Jayanth Ramachandra hit it big and plenty more from up-and-coming artists.

 

The following list is in no order of ranking.

 

Naezy

The Hindi/Urdu rapper is phenomenal with his words even as he holds a mirror up to all of us when he sings about poverty, corruption and life in general.

 

Last Remaining Light

The alt rock band is the catchiest, freshest act courtesy vocalist Siddharth Basrur, guitarist Anurag Shanker, bassist Adil Kurwa and drummer Karun Kannampilly.

 

Daira

The Mumbai alt-rockers are a promising powerhouse that offer catchy rock anthems, commanding vocals and tons of riffs.

 

Awkward Bong

Awkward Bong isn’t trying to be anyone – he is sincere and honest with his music and it shows.

 

Chayan & Smiti

This Delhi duo has wooed us with their mellifluous melodies and their satiny voices that blend like magic. Check out their single “Madeleine” to sample their sweet harmonies.

 

Elemental

The death metallers ruled the roost in 2015, kicking off the year at metalfestival BIG69 in Mumbai and wreaking havoc with their single “Inhumane Purge”.

The promising Delhi guitarist, who has been charming audiences with his percussive style of playing, saved his best for his official debut on the album Orion.

With their exceptional musicianship, the Kolkata band assures us that jazz is in safe hands. Beer Puppets comprises core members Shreya Bhattacharya (vocals); Abhishek Dey (bass) and Srinjay Banerjee (guitar).

The deep house/electronic music producer Jayanth Ramachandra has hit it big this year, if his shiny, danceable track “Night Drive” is anything to go by.
