Here's an ode to this gorgeous team of virtuoso musicians and their extensive legacy. Revisiting our favorite superhits from GOT7
Artistic magnificence that conveys its endless possibilities and unbridled creativity is the essence of GOT7. They kept putting out songs over the years, mostly in the hip-hop, trap, and R&B genres. The septet—Jay B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom—is perhaps best known, in my mind, for how well it can dynamically arrange songs, artfully capturing desire, possibilities, optimism, self-growth, insecurities, and relationship nuances.
Here’s an ode to this gorgeous team of virtuoso musicians and their extensive legacy, revisiting our top 10 songs by the band.
“Just Right” – Just Right
Lyrically, “Just Right” is just so right; it’s a mood-lifter to help you relax if your feelings of inadequacy are holding you back—an idyllic spot to curl up and quiet the restlessness.
You fall each time more in love with the music, for its message—that you are the best version of yourself, just right the way you are, and need no validation or change—is perfectly suited to its vivid soundscape and hip-hop style. Justifiably, one of their best-loved songs.
“If You Do” – Mad
Its chorus is incredibly passionate—I’m a sucker for this song—its intoxicating vibe, and the spot-on-sexy choreography.
One of GOT7’s more mature compositions, “If You Do,” is a melancholy state of mind, albeit one that looks darn well in the visuals. The R&B/Soul EDM sob fest’s tangible sense of anguish comes from a toxic relationship fraught with issues, one that thrives with its mood’s flawless fusion of GOT7’s gorgeous sounds.
“Never Ever” – Flight Log: Arrival
“Never Ever” is an oath to love, loyalty, and never giving up. Thoughts are signified by a melodic arrangement that mixes electronic sound and heavy percussion, creating a solid sing-along number from GOT7’s third and final Flight Log series. In keeping with the band’s essence, “Never Ever” is an effective means to tie up the trilogy.
“You Calling My Name” – Call My Name
Jay B’s voice breeds a poignant mood for “You Calling My Name,” preceding its rap part. A rapture of superb acoustics and vocals segues a shift into Jinyoung’s catchy chorus. It underlines all facets of its beauty, hitting an even higher note in production and aesthetics alongside expressing raw sentiments, longings, and an awareness of a vacuum.
“Lullaby” – Present: You
This lullaby won’t let you drift off the entire time thanks to its fusion of dance music, funk samples, and synth-pop. About solace and serious reflection, this groovy, lavish tune creates an impressive crescendo. And like a comforting lullaby, it deepens its profundity of feelings interacting well with the fanciful displays encountered in the music video.
“Hard Carry” – Flight Log: Turbulence
GOT7’s powerplay with hefty basslines and percussion patterns shines through the dubstep/electronic hit “Hard Carry.” The boys slay it with an unwavering spirit, one of their harder choreographed pieces that concentrates primarily on dance. “Hard Carry” makes for an explosive earworm—a grabbing chorus, a unique rap style, and loads of attitude!
“You Are” – 7 for 7
A tropical house track evoking thanksgiving to one’s loved one when one is weary and needs strength, “You Are” offers a soothing sound.
In the MV, we see the band members wandering around Hong Kong’s streets until they find one another, making you feel like you’re slowly breaking out of a rut. It makes me homesick since the emotions flow straight from the heart.
“Not by the Moon” – Dye
This grabbing synth-pop tune delves into an intricate scene featuring a sublime chorus, crisp melodies, and harmonies in between. With its play on the word “dye,” it pledges eternal love, alluding to dyeing and dying. Encapsulating themes of astronomy, enchantment, and mysticism, the video takes its cues from William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
It is a rare audiovisual treat that is deep in its opulent accompaniment, impassioned vocals by GOT7, and arresting images.
“Fly” – Flight Log: Departure
A line from the song that goes, “It’s like flying in the sky, feeling that I might fall any minute/ But I will go higher, wanna soar straight up,” explains how it’s essential to fly and fly high past hurdles to succeed in life. GOT7’s well-crafted mashup of electronic dance music and sultry rap rhymes that pulse with vigor and showcase pop brilliance is a hymn to optimism and discovering oneself. The song’s assertive and distinct soundscape reinforces its purpose.
“Eclipse” – SpinningTop: Between Security & Insecurity
“Eclipse” features fabulous rapping. The Future bass music, which marries components from trap and dubstep with gentler, less abrasive sounds, expresses the fear of hurting loved ones or even not being able to stand by them. It brings up the band’s concerns and the unease that surrounds thoughts about when their popularity will decline.
With a cohesive quality unique to GOT7’s charisma, the song keeps its infectiousness throughout its playtime.
