13 Epic Quotes from the Farewell Season of ‘OITNB’

The curtain may have closed on Netflix’s prison comedy-drama, but its words are here to stay

Published by

Last Friday, Jenji Kohan’s Orange Is The New Black (OITNB) bid farewell with its final season. From block-level protests to a full-blown riot for prison reform, to plea deals and crusading against ICE, the characters on the show portrayed the human stories behind the bars. The narratives of the path-breaking webseries addressed both headlines and cover-ups in the real world, questioning the premise and price of a sentence. Here are 13 quotes from the seventh and final season that’ll be hard to forget:

“You’ll be back. Humans are narrative junkies.”

“It’s about character. It’s about who shows up for you and who you show up for. When you’re young, you learn this. When you have children, you teach this. When you’re old, you hope you remember.”
— Galina Reznikov (Red)

“Sometimes you have to take the leap and see if a net will appear.”

“I’m trying something new. Focusing on the here and now. ‘Cause life keeps throwin’ me these curveballs. Think I’m gonna keep swingin’ a little bit longer, see what I hit.”
— Tasha Jefferson (Taystee)

“When I look into their chicken faces, I just understand them.
I think it’s because I think of them as people.”
— Suzanne Warren (Crazy Eyes)

“Here’s what I learned. You can’t change people. Especially the old ones.
But what you can change is your attitude to ’em.”
— Cindy Hayes (Black Cindy)

“Yeah, this big house is a fixer-upper. 360 views of gray walls and the plumbing is a motherfucker. Don’t you pay no never mind to that soot falling from the ceiling.
That’s from all the prayers that turned to ash before they left the building.”
— Antoinette Kerson (Akers)

“History is a continuum that loops around.”

“I think sometimes you get so busy, you don’t have time to wonder how you’re doing it all. You do it. And then sometimes you hit a wall, and you say, ‘Okay, that’s all I can handle.’
And you back off and try not to get near the wall again.
There’s strength in admitting what you can’t do. Nobody likes it. But it’s self-preservation.”
