“Best Luck” from It’s Okay That’s Love

On a talk show, a novelist and a psychiatrist squabble, but they eventually become housemates. That’s the crux of the hit romantic comedy K-drama It’s Okay, That’s Love. If you’re a hopeless romantic, this series might be right up your alley. It’s chock-full of adorable and amusing moments, as well as fantastic soundtracks that perfectly complement the scenes. Which OST is my absolute favorite? Chen’s “Best Luck” for sure.

“Every time” from Descendants of the Sun

A South Korean Special Forces soldier falls for a beautiful doctor. Their relationship, however, takes a hit as their professions keep them apart. Sung by Chen and Punch “Everytime” resonates with the theme of this blockbuster hit Korean drama. It expresses the longing of the hearts that are miles apart. The lyrics “When you look at me and smile/ It feels like my heart will stop/ How about you/ It’s really hard for me to handle/ All day I think of you” make it evident and the soulful rendition by the vocalists elevate the emotion of the song to another level.

“For You” from Moonlovers – Scarlet Heart Ryeo

‘Ha Jin’ time travels and emerges as a girl named ‘Hae Soo’ in the Goryeo Dynasty. Now stuck in someone else’s body, she becomes embroiled in a power struggle with a slew of ruthless aspirants to the throne. While the show proved entertaining in itself, I feel the OSTs accentuated its popularity. “For You” is my pick from the playlist, which includes many other beautiful love ballads. This song is performed by Xiumin, Baekhyun, and Chen (EXO-CBX). The nicest aspect is how their voices merge seamlessly together while still standing out.

“Stay With Me” from Guardian: The Lonely and Great God

Punch and Chanyeol recorded “Stay with Me,” the original soundtrack of the 2016 popular television series Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. It is by far one of the most-watched Korean OST videos to date. On December 3rd, the track was released as the first in a series of high-scoring singles. The plot of this fantasy rom-com centers around ‘Kim Shin’, an immortal goblin searching for a human bride who’d help remove an unseen sword from his chest. He comes across ‘Ji Euntak’, a high schooler, the one for him.

“Starlight” from Star of the Universe

“This moment when I am with you/ If only time can stop/ I wanna be a star / that protects you/ Even if I’m in a place where you can’t see,” these words are from Suho and Remi’s lyrical “Starlight,” a soft romance duet from the television drama Star of the Universe starring Suho and Ji Woo. The drama is part of MBC and Naver’s Three Color Fantasy drama trilogy.

“If We Love Again” from To You Project – Sugarman

For this OST from To You Project – Sugar Man, a 2015 South Korean television drama, Chen and Chanyeol lent their distinctive vocals. The song speaks of emotions as ‘Byul’ a female grim reaper runs upon her favorite singer, ‘Woo Joo’, who’s on the verge of dying. As she decides to save Woo, she learns to value relationships in the process.

Beautiful” from EXO Next Door

Another amazing single, ” Beautiful,” from one of the vocal kings, Baekhyun, is included in the Korean web series EXO next door. This became a topic of discussion because it was Baekhyun’s first solo song. His recording session and montage shots from the series are featured in the music video. The story follows ‘Ji Yeonhee’ who flushes profusely and gets completely immobilized when she’s around a good-looking guy. Four members of EXO relocate to a different neighborhood with the hopes of maintaining a low profile. However, it turns out that their house is right in front of Yeon Hee’s!

Crying Out” from Cart

A large retail shop employees band together to resist a major corporation’s unethical methods and fight for their rights. The OST album’s title song, “Crying Out”, is sung by D.O, who made his movie début as ‘Taeyoung’ with this film. The story’s sentiment is enhanced by the powerful lyrics of the song; a message to those who are weary of life, to be together and not lose faith.

“Cherry Blossom Love Song” from 100 Days My Prince

Chen performs in the OST “Cherry Blossom Love Song” for the drama 100 Days My Prince. Chen’s interpretation of this song is fantastic. The inherent vibrato in his voice, combined with the way he modulates it, creates a wonderful symphony. This song appears in bits and pieces throughout the historical romantic comedy-drama, in which Crown Prince ‘Lee Yul’ falls off a cliff and is nearly killed in a murder attempt. Losing memory, he goes missing for 100 days, adopting a new identity. During this time, he meets the kind and compassionate ‘Hong Shim’ and falls in love with her.

“My Love” from Doctor Romantic 2

Baekhyun creates another masterpiece of a song with his unique sense and appealing voice, deepening the immersion of the drama Doctor Romantic 2 and solidifying his place as one of the best and most trusted singers. “My Love” is a song that expresses a loved one’s heart. The repeated piano chords and subtle guitar playing are complemented by Baekhyun’s delicate, expressive, and warm tone, allowing you to feel the song’s emotion. ‘Boo Yongjoo’, also known as Dr. Romantic and ‘Teacher Kim’, leads in the drama. He is weird and refuses to interact with people.

“Go Away Go Away” from Doctor Romantic 2

After the massive success of “Stay with Me” from Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, Chanyeol and Punch collaborate on “Go away go away”. Punch, with amazing tonal quality, has enhanced the drama’s engaging experience with her sensitivity and alluring voice. Chanyeol has flexible and powerful vocal skills besides being the rapper that he is. This song distinguishes out because of its passionate, pleasant tone, as well as the kind of appeal it creates.

“Your Moonlight” from Do You Like Brahms?

Chen’s voice in this OST from Do you like Brahms? contributes to the story’s sentiment, which is about music students at a reputable university who fall in love and follow their dreams while pursuing their music careers. “Your Moonlight” warm our hearts by combining Chen’s encapsulating voice over the soft piano playing and the comforting synth of the 30-piece orchestra.

“Every Second” from Record of Youth

With an intro that begins with a gentle piano and a melody that gradually increases as you progress through the lovely and fluttering lyric to the second half, Baekhyun’s “Every Second” is stunning. The lyrics about the love of youngsters living in difficult times meeting people who bring happiness and strength to each other strengthen the emotional attachment of the drama; a growth record of the youth who dare to achieve dreams and love. With his distinctive smooth voice, Baekhyun sensitively portrays eagerness, anxiety, and emotions through this song.

“Be My Love” from Love PlaylistSeason 4

A romantic OST that serves as the theme song for the fourth season of Love Playlist, a story chronicling the characters’ experiences through love, enlistment, career options, and new relationships. “Be My Love,” helmed by EXO-CBX’s vocals, has a catchy soundtrack and is sonically pleasing.

Break Your Box” from The Box

‘Ji Hoon’ (Chanyeol) is a gifted and aspiring musician who suffers from severe stage fright. However, after meeting a brilliant producer, his life begins to change. Chanyeol composed the lyrics for “Break Your Box,” which portrays Ji Hoon’s gradual growth throughout the film, where two characters venture out on a cross-country voyage. It’s a musical with popular songs from around the world, including Coldplay, Billie Eilish, Mariah Carey, Louis Armstrong and others, as well as hit Korean songs. “Break Your Box” is a one-of-a-kind composition; the electric guitar, in the end, is so cool, and Chanyeol, with his incomparable voice and style, adds value to the sound effects.
