This week we're tuning in to tracks by Jessi, Ravi, June and more
Hip-hop powerhouse Jessi delivers her summer offering “Nunu Nana,” an aggressive and confident single about girl power and living life your own way without worrying about what others say. A cameo from K-pop legend Lee Hyori completes the video’s swag factor.
Breezy and relaxed, “Paradise” shows off a more pop side of rapper, songwriter and producer Ravi who is usually known for his darker, trap-infused and experimental work. It’s not the most stand-out number he’s ever released and blends into the crowd of tropical releases we’re seeing lately, but friend and singer Ha Sungwoon (of Wanna One and Hotshot) adds an edge with his soaring vocals to compliment Ravi’s raspy tone.
This is in so many ways a summer single done right. Dreamy, subtle and intricate, Snzae’s “Pool” is nostalgic and reminiscent of lying by a pool late on a Sunday afternoon, dappled sunshine across your legs. R&B artist Xydo’s clear vocals are a great addition to Snzae’s hazy tone.
R&B singer-songwriter June brightens up 2020 with his disco-influenced single “Anywhere.” The light-hearted, upbeat lead single off his EP Ending is cheerful and sweet, packing the right amount of retro with its funky bass and June’s playful vocals. The video is equally bright and quirky, with June playing a waiter at a diner hoping to ask a pretty patron out on a date.
Giant Pink makes a grand return with the gritty and glamorous “Burn Out,” a powerful trap single with a traditional touch. The chorus is an instrumental refrain featuring the traditional Korean instrument taepyeongso, creating a fascinating contrast with Giant Pink’s powerful flow and husky voice.
