“We all go through it: the pain of getting dumped by someone you love.” His words mean that Joseph Gordon-Levitt knows Tom, the greeting-card writer he’s playing, from the inside. Zooey Deschanel plays Summer, the girl of
his broken dreams in this dream of a romantic comedy. Debuting director Marc Webb, working from a deft script by Scott Neustadter and Michael Webber, gives the movie a Memento structure, skipping randomly through the 500-day relationship. You’ll be pulled between laughs and sweet sadness. For this movie and its stars, there’s only one reaction: mad love.
