From Blackpink in All-Black to Lil Nas X’s Lavish Lewk: See the Wildest ’Fits from the 2022 VMAs Red Carpet
From Blackpink to Lil Nas X and more, here is what your favorite stars wore to the MTV VMAs 2022 red carpet
The black carpet has been rolled out at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, as music’s biggest superstars arrive for the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. The VMAs always give us plenty of fashion fodder, with eye-popping ensembles and occasional head-scratchers that often create just as much buzz as the actual award show itself.
This year’s red carpet is no different, with celebs parading out in memorable — and meme-able — looks. Scroll through our gallery for some of the wildest looks from the VMAs carpet this year.
- Coordination to the Max
Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé left the “Pink Venom” at home and came with the all-black coordinating dresses ahead of their highly-anticipated VMAs performance. A lot of words have been used to describe the biggest girl group in the world but the one most deserving tonight: Queens.
2. It’s Giving Bronze Statue
Daddy- we mean.. Jack Harlow, pulled up to the VMAs in a chocolate brown suit and matching pants, looking like a cross between Keanu Reeves’ character in The Matrix and those living statues posing at your local park. Somebody tap him on the shoulder to see if he reacts.
3. Black on Black on the Black Carpet
Turn up the music, turn down the lights: Lizzo has arrived. The “2 Be Loved” singer stormed the VMAs black carpet in a dramatic puffy black dress with matching lipstick and slicked-back hair. In case nobody told you today: Lizzo knows how to make an entrance.
4. She’s Eating, Your Honor
The sequins are sequining. The bangs are banging. Sabrina Carpenter graced the carpet in a sculpted Moschino dress featuring some colorful sequin action, and a little bit of skin. Sabrina may have put pause on sending them emails, but with this look, she certainly delivered.
5. Transforming Newark into Suncity
We’re ready for R&B king Khalid’s performance of “Numb” with Marshmello tonight. The Free Spirit singer is manifesting no drama at this year’s VMAs, working a hippie-inspired look with double peace signs to match.
6. She’s All We Wanna Be
Forget the girl with the perfect smile and small waist, Tate McRae is all we wanna be with this matching aqua blue two-piece. The singer is serving as MTV’s celebrity correspondent on the red carpet, though with the outfit and tan, she could easily head down the I-95 straight to MTV’s Jersey Shore as well.
7. Hella Cool J
I mean, would it even be LL Cool J without his signature beanie? The VMAs host is definitely “Doin’ It” for us with his leather jacket and diamond-encrusted necklace, and the eponymous diamond knuckle ring is a nice touch in case any youngins needed a reminder of the rap royalty walking the carpet.
8. Nashville’s in the House
That fade is hella slick! Heartthrob Kane Brown is representing country music on tonight’s VMAs stage, where he’s performing “Grand,” nominated for Song of the Summer. Wearing a Prada suit, he walked the carpet with his wife Katelyn, who left a little lipstick on him when they posed for a quick smooch.
9. Best Version of Her
Anitta showed up to the VMAs with her “heart pulled out” and a matching corseted red dress as she preps to represent her home country of Brazil on the mainstage. She’s bringing the sex appeal to the awards show with a performance of “Envolver.”
10. Not Mad(die), We’re Liv(ing) for This Look
From Disney Channel queen to VMAs performer. With her hair in braids, Dove Cameron brought the belts, chokers and bedazzled nails for her red carpet look, which is giving us Hot Topic meets couture.
11. God Did(n’t) Ask for This
Wearing a gray Prada shirt and bedazzled watch, DJ Khaled came to the VMAs with his newest annoying catchphrase: “God Did” (It’s his way of album promo, we guess?)
12. Superache or Super Slay?
Conan Gray is the king of ethereality. After dropping his heartbreak LP Superache this summer, Gray came to celebrate at the VMAs, where he wore a see-through lace jacket and matching train. We’re in love.
13. Space Princess
Her sister might be the queen of the sea in The Little Mermaid, but Chlöe Bailey delivered outer space realness with this silver-sequined dress. Werk, sis!
14. Mom and Dad’s Night Out
J Balvin and Valentina Ferrer called a babysitter for baby Rio tonight and coordinated with the black and white on the VMAs red carpet. (It wouldn’t be Balvin without the colorful hair.) Along with a nomination, he’s also performing “Nivel de Perreo,” his booty shake-inducing song with Ryan Castro.
15. Are You Brave Enough to Let Me See Your Peacock?
That’s a Katy Perry lyric, but it’s what a shirtless Lil Nas X is channelling with this feathery skirt and matching headpiece. Lil Nas knowns how to make a fashion statement, for sure!
16. B as in Bebe?
Bebe Rexha came through with the classic black dress as she showed off some cleavage and a sweet silver necklace with her initial. She’s celebrating the release of her single “I’m Good” with David Guetta, which came out on Friday.
17. Flea’s Flipping Finger
Chad Smith with the butterfly suit, Anthony Kiedis in aqua blue, and Flea with the shorts… The lack of coordination makes it seem like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers actually planned to pull up like this.
18. Billy on the Streets of WeHo
Billy Eichner had a twink “What do I wear?” dilemma and went with a black mesh top for his VMAs red carpet. The chest hair was giving, but the ‘fit is… basic.
19. Ok, Red Carpet’s Over! T. Swift Is Here
The queen didn’t come to play with this silver dress and matching heels. Taylor Swift is nominated for video of the year, and four other awards for her “All Too Well” short film.
20. Becky From the Block
Becky G came with the baraja española-inspired playing cards dress. She’s up for best Latin for her song “Mamiii” with Karol G.
