South Korean artist G-Dragon kicked off the new year with a surprise video to give fans an idea of what they can expect from him in 2023. The Big Bang leader and legendary soloist’s video titled ‘Guerrilla Desk: G_Division’ sees him sitting under a spotlight as he greets fans for the new year and outlines his plans for new music and other activities.

In the clip, the rapper, producer and songwriter confirmed he will be dropping a new album this year and is currently working on it. “I plan on meeting you, guys, through various activities,” he stated. “I’m preparing an album, too. I’ll make sure to bring some good news to you guys this new year.” G-Dragon also expressed his regret at not being able to perform for fans in 2022 after the release of Big Bang’s single “Still Life” and hopes to rectify the situation in 2023. He added that last year he took his time to focus on his own health, explaining, “It was a year I was able to prepare myself every day and recharge.”

The King of K-pop’s last comeback as a soloist was in 2017 with Kwon Ji Yong, a five-track EP about his life as an artist and the darker sides of fame that most people don’t see. The release was supported by the Act III: M.O.T.T.E World Tour that same year.

G-Dragon is currently the only member of Big Bang still under YG Entertainment and was reportedly in negotiations with the label surrounding a solo contract; vocalists Taeyang and Daesung announced their departures from the label in December 2022 and rapper T.O.P made his exit earlier in February. While there are no official announcements about G-Dragon’s contract and future with YGE, there are fan speculations that ‘Guerrilla Desk: G_Division’ in the video’s title could be hinting at a the name of a new label, project or album under the company.
