Premiere: Alt-Rockers Oddsox Unveil a Complicated Love Story in ‘Tell Me’ Video
The Chennai-origin band, winners of Parx Band Hunt in 2018, have released their second single after ‘Drown’
Alt-rock band Oddsox amp up on their buoyant, shimmering sound with their second single “Tell Me,” which comes with a video about a short but unforgettable love.
The follow-up to their debut song “Drown” in 2018 (which was a tad more melancholic in nature), vocalist-guitarist Neil Cornelius says “Tell Me” was also written while the band members were still in college and spent time “agonizing over perfecting the sound” before they felt it was ready for release. “We finally hit our stride somewhere in the middle and found a sound we were happy with. The next part was the video,” Cornelius says.
Enlisting filmmaker Pranav Radee and actors Athul Prabhakaran and Urmila Krishnan aka Urmi, among others, the music video for “Tell Me” takes place in the coastal town of Varkala and sees the protagonists make the most of a short yet eventful bond. While the song centers around the nervousness about sharing your feelings of love with someone close, the video’s plot too delves into similar emotions shared by both characters in midst of a “workation” or staycation in the town.
Although Oddsox did have a music video for “Drown” as well, “Tell Me” saw them take on a whole new beast in terms of production and storytelling. “The sheer amount of work and number of people required to pull this off still blows me away […] Shooting on location provided to be a completely new challenge for us and brought about so many surprises. But in the end, it was all worth it and I wouldn’t change a thing,” Cornelius says.
The song breaks a long gap between releases for Oddsox and the band says they have more material in the works. “We also have plans for a tour and a whole bunch of amazing music lined up to release. One which would be to release an alternate version of ‘Tell Me,’” Cornelius adds.
