Check Out: Pippin
The post dub electronica artist from Delhi launches debut EP
WHO: Pippin, the newest avatar of Delhi-based Jatin Puri, which was created a little over a year ago has synths and two-step rhythms mixed into his post-dubstep sound. The artist has also had stints as a rapper and lyricist, played drums for the Delhi prog rock band Another Vertigo Rush and also launched an electronica project released under his own name.
SOUND: Likened to Mount Kimbie, Flume and Burial, Pippin’s sound is post-dubstep with elements of trip-hop, future garage and groove-ridden chillwave. Pippin also includes trippy, psychedelic elements, which influenced him in earlier years.
BIG BREAK: Puri spent a year in New Zealand studying sound engineering and working on his album but made his way back to India last year in time to be slotted at the Dub Station at NH7 Weekender in Bengaluru, where he made his stage debut. This was quickly followed by a performance at Magnetic Fields Festival where he opened the main stage. “I prefer playing earlier slots,” says Puri, explaining how his downtempo beats are more suited setting the tone for a party, “despite how many people are there watching me.”
ON THE CARDS: Pippin who released his 8-track debut EP 1010 online last week, will take stage for an official launch at TLR Café in New Delhi. The artist will perform the album in its entirety and also debut some of his new work.
SPIN THIS: “Celestial” is one of the last songs the artist worked on and his favorite from the album.
Pippin will launch his debut EP 0n Saturday, 8th March at TLR Café, New Delhi
