Premiere: Janvi Anand Faces Unrequited Love on ‘Fool To Want You’

When singer-songwriter Janvi Anand started working on a story about a homosexual couple in the video for her new song “Fool To Want You,” she had no idea it would coincide with the Supreme Court verdict to decriminalize Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code. The New Delhi rock artist says she had been meaning to talk about the LGBTQ+ community for a while now, “because of the things I have experienced in the past.”

She adds, “Even the most progressive people from our generation, fail to provide people from the LGBTQ+ community a free space. Accepting it exists, and accepting that it is nothing different are two very different things. I am glad people are finally accepting and trying to understand the community. I wanted to work on the latter.” The video ”“ shot in Bengaluru by city-based filmmaker and graphic designer Arun Gopidas with creative director Anuja Gopidas ”“ features two women who fall in and out of love as Anand offers her sublime, deep voice of questioning love and desire.

The song ”“ her first since 2017’s Faces of Love ”“ was written in March earlier this year, and road-tested on Anand’s Monkey Suit tour earlier this year. Her first major tour across the country, Anand teamed up with event organizers White Heaven Entertainments but says there was still a lot to learn in terms of having control and “reaching out to various stakeholders” while putting shows together.

While Anand is still plotting a return to Los Angeles ”“ where she studied at Musicians Institute and worked as an artist ”“ her next set of shows is in Thailand in December. She adds, “I am super excited about that.”
