The track is the Kolkata singer-songwriter’s seventh release
20-year-old Kolkata-based singer-songwriter Aamir Rizvi recalls that during his first guitar lesson, his teacher called his mother and told her that he could never become a guitar player because of his “thick chubby fingers.” “Even though I was seven at the time, some part of me wanted to get better and move forward with this,” he says. Rizvi would go on to play guitar throughout his schooling years and in 2016 wrote his first song entitled “Run Away,” which he later released as his debut single in 2018.
After consulting with Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Raghav Meattle and guitarist Ehsaan Noorani (from composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy), Rizvi decided to take music much more seriously and began gigging heavily in Kolkata from 2020 onwards while also becoming a guitar tutor himself and continuing to release singles. Now, he’s out with his seventh single, the comforting “always/on my mind.”
The new song includes delicate acoustic guitar plucking over melodic electric guitar playing, Rizvi’s breezy vocals, atmospheric soundscapes, a rustic solo and more. “The entire concept of the song doesn’t revolve around heartbreak or sadness, but I would like to call it a thank you note instead. I wrote this for my high school girlfriend who changed my life in the best way possible.”
In the coming week, Rizvi is all set to play shows at New Delhi’s Depot 48 on July 14th, Gurugram’s AMPM the following day and at the Broadway Hotel in Kolkata on July 16th. With a full-length album ready too, the singer-songwriter is plotting to release the music sometime in 2024. He says, “After the gigs, I’ll be taking some time off to practice my craft a bit more so my sound can be enhanced. Being a musician is super fun, but it’s also important to rest.”
