Karnal-based singer-songwriter Aanshika Sharma – who goes by her first name – began releasing music only two years ago. Always one to sing and compose music in her free time, the artist says, “My music teacher in school encouraged me and told me that my voice is beautiful, and gave me every opportunity to sing.” Aanshika would go on to release a bunch of singles and collaborations, and the 18-year-old is now out with her six-track debut EP Colour Bleu

The singer-songwriter began writing, composing and recording the EP during her 12th-grade board exams. She says, “I can say I was the most creative I have ever been at that time; I picked six songs that I was very proud of, which conveyed emotions.” The artist adds, “I remember my class 12th boards were over my head, and making music was my only escape.”

According to Aanshika, Colour Bleu is an amalgamation of variations of the color blue. The EP opens with the whispery “Lea-nnan (lover)” which is about “enlightenment and self-discovery.” “By the beach” includes delicate piano chords as Aanshika sings about a fantasy she created, which talks about “two people in love, enjoying each other’s company on the beach.” On the jangly acoustic-guitar offering “Bleu,” the musician expresses her dual emotions about her past love, while on the slowburner “Questions” she asks for God to give her a sign.

Aanshika whips out the acoustic guitar once more on “agoodbye.” She says, “Just like its name, this song is a goodbye for the EP and my past love.” The record closes with the dark-pop bonus track “Taking a pill.” The artist says, “‘Taking a pill’ is a harsh truth that is vulgarly written by stating love to be a pill and me being an addict for it.”

The singer-songwriter worked with producer Abhijay Sharma on “agoodbye” and “By the beach,” while BAD Junkie stepped in to produce “Taking a pill” and “Questions.” Aanshika says, “They were so patient with me and helped me create my vision.”

Currently, Aanshika is waiting on her listeners to see which song resonates the most with them before she shoots a music video. Looking ahead, she’s got more material on the way that she plans on releasing at the turn of the year. “I am really excited for it,” she says.
