Action Meets Romance In ‘Gyeongseong Creature’

Park Seojoon and Han Sohee's upcoming drama 'Gyeongseong Creature' is expected to entertain with suspense, anxiety, fright and romance

Nothing beats a Park Seo-joon drama for a passionate Korean drama fan like myself. I am aware that just hearing his name sends your heart racing. Yes, it does; let’s face it. His acting prowess, sophisticated demeanor, intense gaze emphasized by his double eyelids and mannerisms are all immensely appealing. It’s apparent that he and Brie Larsen are starring in The Marvels together. But Park’s absence from the K-drama scene (following Itaewon Class) wasn’t made up for until he was cast in the upcoming historical horror television series Gyeongseong Creature.

This historical horror thriller depicts Jang Tae-sang (Park), a wealthy man renowned for having the ideal profile, in Gyeongseong (the former name for Seoul) in 1945. In that respect, he is a trustworthy source of information and has been the center of attention because of his fast reflexes, as well as his great insight and sociability. When Jang falls in love with Yoon Chae-ok (Han So-hee), his perception of life and his objectives begin to change.

Yoon is noted for being able to trace those who have gone missing. When she was young, her father took her on trips between Shanghai and Manchuria. A crisis forced her to acquire survival skills because her life was anything but simple at the time. As a result, she became an adept sharpshooter, knife handler, and machine operator. Yoon had lost her mother a decade ago; in a bid to locate her, she journeys to Gyeongseong, where she meets Jang. When he first encounters Yoon, Jang is mesmerized by her attitude and capabilities. Yoon is indeed the complete antithesis of him in terms of disposition, and yet she captures his eye.

Han So-hee’s absolutely stellar on-screen presence has been amply proven. Her broad acting range deserves special mention, particularly during fight sequences. She did a phenomenal job as a teenager seeking revenge for the murder of her father in the dark noir drama My Name. I’m sure that Han will put forth a strong display in Gyeongseong Creature as well. Classified as a potpourri of suspense, adventure, and romance, this drama was originally written by Kan Eun-kyung and will be helmed by Jung Dong-yoon. It should be available early this year.
