South Korean actor Kim Sae-ron has passed away. She was 24. Police verified the news today after Kim was discovered dead at her Seoul home.
Korean media reports that the actor’s friend, who was supposed to meet her today, found her dead at her residence and informed the authorities around 5 p.m. (KST).
The cause of Kim’s death is under inquiry, but no indication of criminal activity has been identified, according to a police spokesman.
Kim began her acting career as a child actor with a role in A Brand New Life in 2009. She also co-starred in the neo-noir action thriller The Man from Nowhere with Won Bin. The movie was South Korea’s highest-grossing film in 2010.
Her subsequent roles include I Am a Dad (2011), Listen to My Heart (2011), The Neighbor (2012), The Queen’s Classroom (2013), A Girl at My Door (2014) and Hi! School: Love On (2014).
The time frame spanning 2015-2022 represents the next significant phase in her career, which propelled her to greater recognition with lead roles in a variety of films and dramas, including Snowy Road (2015), Secret Healer (2016), The Villagers (2018), Leverage (2019), and The Great Shaman Ga Doo-shim (2021).
Kim has won multiple awards during her time in the Korean entertainment industry, including prestigious ones that include the Baeksang Arts Awards, Blue Dragon Film Awards, Grand Bell Awards, and MBC Drama Awards.
In 2022, Kim involved herself in a drunk driving incident in Gangnam District, Seoul, and received a penalty of 20 million won, causing her professional life to go down.
