Everyone has their unique way of dealing with the lockdown languishing. The political uncertainty in the country and riotous dispositions do little but add to one’s stressors. Snigdhadeep Chatterjee is no stranger to that feeling. Still, rather than being bogged down with these ominous thoughts, he channeled his musings into his ambient-acoustic debut single “Frozen Parrots.” Also known as Snig, the multi-talented artist was last seen in a lead role alongside veteran actor Emraan Hashmi in the 2019 feature film Why Cheat India

“Frozen Parrots” released on June 20th on all streaming platforms. Harboring a childlike innocence to it, the single questions universal helplessness as well as motive during a time of despair. Chatterjee’s melancholic vocals aided by an acoustic lullaby-like melody create an eccentric juxtaposition. A nostalgic composition of piano and xylophone adds a comforting feeling to the track, whereas the lyrics remind us of the dismal situation around us.

The self-taught musician, who draws inspiration from several artists, including Steven Wilson, Simon and Garfunkel and Bob Dylan, has been rather busy the past year. Actively releasing original compositions on social media, Chatterjee’s passion for music led him to take up various sound design projects for documentaries, advertisements and even short films. A frequent sight at the (currently inactive) gig circuit in Mumbai, Chatterjee was the frontman for the band The Shrubs in 2014. Next up for Chatterjee is his debut feature film named To Caterpillar, From Butterfly, for which he’s also composed background music score.
