Maroon 5 is back. During an appearance on The Tonight Show, frontman Adam Levine announced that the rock band will release an album and hit the road this year.
After host Jimmy Fallon mentioned there are have been rumors of a new Maroon 5 song or album, Levine replied, “I can confirm the rumors are true. It’s true. The rumors are correct.”
When pressed by Fallon for more details, he added, “There are details. I cannot divulge all the details. But the details are basically, roughly, there’s a single coming at the end of the month-ish. I’m really excited about it. An album is coming over the summer. Non-specifically around the summertime. And then, even more non-specifically, there is a tour coming in the fall-ish.”
Levine also reflected on working with producer Benny Blanco on “Moves Like Jagger,” a turning point in Maroon 5’s writing career.
“He’s fun, he’s hilarious,” Levine said of Blanco. “He kind of convinced me to write music away from the band. Because I had only kept it in the band before, so we’d never had outside writers on any of that stuff.” Some of the songs Blanco played for Levine were “Stereo Hearts” and “Moves Like Jagger.”
“I was like, ‘Oh this is a lot of fun,’” Levine recalled. “Having new energy is a great thing.” He added, “And funnily enough, now I’ve kind of gone back to writing and shutting everybody out. But Benny was the first guy that got me to kind of think outside of the band.”
Maroon 5’s last LP, Jordi, dropped in 2021. The album featured guest appearances from Megan Thee Stallion, Stevie Nicks, H.E.R., and YG, and included singles “Memories” and “Nobody’s Love.” Rolling Stone called it “downright elegiac,” noting that “a little more escape might’ve been welcome” on the overly serious album.
