Adele Reveals She Turned Down Super Bowl 51 Halftime Gig

“They were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no,” singer says of NFL’s offer

Aug 15, 2016

UPDATE: The NFL and Pepsi issued a joint statement on Sunday denying that Adele was offered a spot at next year’s Super Bowl hafltime show. “The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele,” the statement said (via Billboard). “We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time.”

Earlier this month, rumors surfaced that Adele was the odds-on favorite to headline the Super Bowl 51 halftime show following reports that the 25 singer was approached by the NFL to perform at the February 2017 event in Houston. However, at Adele’s concert Saturday night at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, she confirmed that while she was offered the gig, she turned the opportunity down.

“First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl,” Adele said (via Billboard). “I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really”¦ I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I did say no. I’m sorry. Maybe next time, for my next album, because I’m going to do a dance album next time. So maybe I’ll do it then.”

Adele also dismissed rumors that she is pregnant ”“ “I’m having a cheese baby,” the singer joked, caressing her stomach ”“adding that the last time she was pregnant, no one in the media found out until she was seven months along. “Stupid rumors. They’re so fucking stupid,” she said.

Adele’s Super Bowl denial comes after an NFL source told The Sun earlier in August, “There is nobody bigger in the world than Adele right now and organizers are doing absolutely everything they can to try to persuade her to sign up.”
