Performers pay tribute to Adam Yauch, Whitney Houston and Donna Summer
Adele dominated the Billboard Music Awards last night, winning 12 awards including top artist, top female artist and top album. The British pop star did not attend the show, though, so her awards were not presented on the broadcast. LMFAO was on hand to accept their song of the year award for their goofy hit “Party Rock Anthem,” Taylor Swift was presented with the Billboard Woman of the Year Award and Chris Brown was honored as R&B artist of the year. Lil Wayne won for male artist, and Wiz Khalifa took home the prize for top new artist.
In addition to the awards, the show included performances by Carly Rae Jepsen, Carrie Underwood, Usher, Kelly Clarkson, the Wanted, LMFAO, Linkin Park, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, who debuted “Wide Awake,” a new single recorded for her forthcoming 3D concert movie. The show included several tributes, including a nod to Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb, who died earlier that day, and a medley of Donna Summer tunes performed by Natasha Bedingfield.
