The slinky, funky new Hindi song from the singer-songwriter delves on youthful adventures in Mumbai, as part of his 2022 EP ‘The Classroom Project’
Singer-songwriter Aditya Kambhampati sees the city of Mumbai and all the quests that come with it through new eyes in the music video for his latest song “Fati Parchi,” directed by Lal Narendra.
Among the more curious sights in the self-described “whacky” video for the slinky Hindi pop song is when Kambhampati encounters a rap crew at the steps of the Asiatic Library in town. Admittedly, every weekend at the Asiatic Library steps is likely to draw a different crowd, but Kambhampati calls it a total coincidence. “Those guys were working on their own Instagram reel I think and were gracious enough to just do a quick thing with me and it was all just impromptu, no retakes or choreography,” he adds.
The fun-loving, adventure-seeking music video matches up with Kambhampati’s pop, rock and funk songwriting, with the track opening his second EP The Classroom Project. While the artist has previously written darker tunes, he says it was wonderful to work on “Fati Parchi.” He adds, “To be honest, I’ve always been a fan of whacky and chill music […] Most songs from the EP are pretty much in a happy chill space, for a change which is very refreshing for me.”
Kambhampati and Narendra created the music video by filming for about six to seven days, which mostly involved sleepless nights, drives across the city and “negotiations with authorities” to gain permission to shoot the footage at particular locations in Mumbai. Kambhampati credits Narendra for getting access to most places seen in the “Fati Parchi” video. “The entire video is shot in natural light. And big thanks to Shifa, my wife who handled production and costumes for the video. In fact she’s even featured at the start and end of the video. That’s about my small indie family crew,” the artist says.
With The Aditya Kambhampati Experience [T.A.K.E.] already performing, there’s another recent single called “Nami Danam” put out in July, one that digs into a more sprawling kind of rock sound. He adds, “After the video, there are again a couple of singles for release I’m working on for this year and currently I’m in the state of doing the last bit of writing and production. I’m slowly trying to get back to the trippy groovy vibe. Let’s see how it goes.”
