Shillong’s Dappest and adL to Join Tyga’s Dubai Show
The singer/rapper and producer duo will perform at Zero Gravity club in Dubai on April 19th
Shillong artists adL aka Adiel Massar and singer/rapper Dappest aka Dapher Laloo will head out for their first international gig next week, performing alongside American rapper Tyga at the “Taste” hitmaker’s Dubai show on April 19th.
Dappest and adL will perform at beach club venue Zero Gravity in Dubai, including material from their 2022 album At Your Service as well as their recent single “Follow.” While “Follow” – released in September last year – has elements on indie rock mixed in with R&B harmonies that nodded to the Eighties movement, the duo are best known for their genre-blending experiments between hip-hop, soul, funk and dance music.
Previously performing at Vh1 Supersonic festival in Pune this February, adL and Dappest also won the Mega Music Contest, an initiative supported by the Government of Meghalaya, “Expecting only great things performing for the first time in the beautiful city of Dubai,” the duo say in a statement.
Over on Instagram, a joint post by the artists stated their excitement about opening to Tyga: “Surreal moment to be looking at this flyer and knowing we are the opening act for T-Raww @tyga in the City of Gold, DXB. A massive opportunity to represent where we come from, our beloved Meghalaya and take our sound to the gateway of the Gulf.”
The artists first began working together after they discovered each other’s music online in 2019 and recorded their first single “Back 2 Back.” Dappest and adL have often described their music as a “celebration of love, life, and self-expression, attracting listeners with its groove and heartfelt storytelling.” AdL, for his part, has also gone on to work with artists like Bengaluru-based RANJ aka Ranjani Ramadoss on her X-rated single “Headrush” in 2022.
Tyga, for his, part, is performing in Dubai as part of Zero Gravity’s Sundance Vol. 7 gig series, which is billed as a hip-hop beach festival by organizers. Past programming at Zero Gravity has included the likes of Fatboy Slim, Martin Solveig, plus live concerts from Clean Bandit, James Arthur and John Newman.
