Twenty two artists across fusion, pop, metal and hip-hop will perform at the upcoming sixth edition of annual showcase series The Gig Week, at various venues across New Delhi, between December 10th and 17th.

What kicks off with prog band Skyharbor’s return to the capital on December 10th also hosts the likes of singer Sharvi (fresh from her win on singing competition The Stage 2), post-rockers Aswekeepsearching, fusion band Advaita, Indian-American rapper Raja Kumari and Mumbai ska/reggae act The Fanculos, among others.

Co-founder Dhruv Malik says the focus just isn’t on bringing rarely-seen bands to the capital, “In the previous years we’ve had this focus on getting big names down to the city – but the ideology this year is to make these gigs cohesive. One act flowing into another and forming an experience.” The festival’s partner Anubhav Gupta says they’re looking at not just headliners, but the entire package.

In addition to choosing popular venues such as Antisocial, Bandstand and Summerhouse Café, the Gig Week is going to a new venue called Junction and the revival of The Ashok Amphitheater, which will host Aswekeepsearching, Advaita and the Hansraj Projekt.

Following their annual Delhi edition, the Gig Week has set sights on two new city editions ”“ Mumbai and Pune. Malik says, “The week kickstarts from the January 14th and ends on the 21st. The line up effort involved there is just as big as in Delhi because the ideology will be the same – to get Delhi names down to Mumbai and expose the audiences to these fantastic artists that are almost done playing the same venues in Delhi.” Gupta adds, “It’s definitely a different ball game as opposed to home ground in Delhi, since we’re doing this for the first time there, but I’m convinced about what we’re planning.”
