A year after the Delhi fusion band released their second album, a short video looks back at the making of their award-winning work
At the time of recording their short film, eight-member Delhi fusion band Advaita had completed eight years together. The Silent Sea Film follows the band around jam rooms in the capital, YRF Studios in Mumbai [where they recorded The Silent Sea] as well as Blue Frog in New Delhi and Mumbai during their album launch tour. Though their eighth birthday was an all-star affair, the short film prefers to concentrate on the band, featuring short, chatty interview clips with the band members and crew.
The Silent Sea won the best album award at the Jack Daniel’s Annual Rock Awards last month and also shared the prize for best album artwork with folk rock band Swarathma’s Topiwalleh. “It was a real surprise to me, especially JD Rock Awards, because the competition was big,” says guitarist Abhishek Mathur. The Silent Sea Film, shot by filmmaker Tahska [Akshat Nauriyal] of web-documentary portal Now Delhi, comes exactly a year after the album’s release. Says Mathur, “We had the footage, and kept working on it. Then all these awards came in and it was the first anniversary of The Silent Sea, so we decided to put it on YouTube and announce it, instead of just leaving it there for someone to find.”
