It's a close competition among the top Indian indie bands at the eighth edition in the annual awards show this year.
The eighth edition of the annual awards event will see rock veterans Indus Creed lead the nominations tally, with seven nods for their 2012 album Evolve. Delhi folk fusion band Advaita stand at an equal chance, with seven nominations for their sophomore effort The Silent Sea.
Tied with six nominations each are Mumbai alternative rock band Split [who released Counting Perfume in February 2012] and Bengaluru alt rock band Thermal And A Quarter [for their triple album Three Wheels 9 Lives].Â
Nominations for the JD Rock Awards this year are a reflection of the rapidly growing alternative music industry with bands from almost every genre making their presence known. Reggae/ska band The Ska Vengers are up for five nominations, including Best Band and Best Album [for their eponymous self-titled debut album], among others.Â
This year, the introduction of the new category for Best Metal Band has Delhi progressive metal band Skyharbor, thrash/groove metal band Providence, melodic death metal band Dark Helm and black metal band 1833 AD vying for the award.
The winner in the Best Band category will get to attend the JD Grand Concert at Cambodia later this year. Voting is now open to public.
