aespa Are Fierce and Assertive in ‘Savage’

The monster rookie girl group have also accompanied the release with their first-ever EP of the same name

Continuing the enthralling adventures from their previous singles “Black Mamba” and “Next Level,” ‘Metaverse girl group’ aespa make their highly anticipated comeback with “Savage.”

Composed by Kirsten Collins, Jia Lih, Yoo Young Jin and Hautboi Rich, “Savage” is a trap-based track stylized by powerful drum and bass. Narrating the group’s ongoing efforts to defy the ‘Black Mamba,’ the track further elucidates aespa and ‘ae’ (the group’s digital alter egos) proceeding to the virtual world of KWANGA with the help of ‘nævis’ (an AI system which aids ‘ae’ communicate with the real aespa members.)

Highlighting the groups’ vocal prowess, “Savage” blends addictive hooks, rap verses and ad-libs while displaying the group’s ability to take on varied vocals. The music video mirrors the track’s sci-fi thematics with its high-budget CGI and polished labyrinthine set designs, creating a visually immersive experience. As the video concludes, the two worlds blur the borders with the ‘ae’ joining aespa to execute the hook choreography of the track.

Savage is aespa’s first EP since their debut in November 2020. Lead by the title track of the same name, the multi-genre six-track EP contains additional tracks such as “ænergy,” “I’ll Make You Cry,” “YEPPI YEPPI,” “ICONIC,” and “LUCID DREAM.”  The group is also set to host the virtual showcase, SYNK DIVE: aespa Savage on their YouTube channel, where they’ll interact with their fans and perform the title track “Savage” for the first time.
