"We come from Delhi, and damn, it’s the hardest and most violent city in the country. Our album pinpoints that naked hostility and how, with each passing day, people are becoming more and more like the city.”
Undying Inc. bassist Reuben Bhattacharya spoke to ROLLING STONE INDIA about capturing the brutality of Delhi through their album Aggressive World Dynasty and the band they believe will come out of its cocoon this year at the JD awards.
“Aggressive World Dynasty is our answer to the world. We come from Delhi, and damn, it’s the hardest and most violent city in the country. Our album pinpoints that naked hostility and how, with each passing day, people are becoming more and more like the city.” Says Bhattacharya “In one word, the album is ”“ rage. Pure, unadulterated rage.”
According to Bhattacharya, “Savage melody needs unequivocally savage lyric. “We’re not just a bunch of guys with crushing, overbearingly powerful music screaming ”˜Hey, look at me! I’m angry!’ It’s 50-50 balance between both music and lyrics, which me and our guitarist (Biswarup Gupta) write together.”
When asked to choose a favorite track, he hesitates before saying. “Quite a few, really. ”˜Xenophobe’ has been nominated, though, with fans, ”˜Manimal’ seems to be our most popular number. It’s kind of all-inclusive of our brand of philosophy of the anger and degeneration of mankind. We’re also fond of ”˜Contagion’ ”“ it’s almost as if that track ties the whole album together.’
Their inspiration dawns from bands within the country’s metal circuit “From Them Clones, Bhayanak Maut and Demonic Resurrection, to Goddess Gagged and Skyharbor, it’s the range of amazing metal band from the old generation to the up-and-coming that make us want to make music.”
Bhattacharya also believes that Eccentric Pendulum is teetering on the brink of the big-time. “Those guys definitely deserve to be recognized this year. Not just because they’re our metal brothers, but because they’re good!”
